If you or someone you know has been sexually assaulted, Vancouver Coastal Health and Fraser Health offer Sexual Assault Services (SAS). Comprehensive SAS are offered at Vancouver General Hospital, Surrey Memorial Hospital, Abbotsford Regional Hospital, and Sechelt General Hospital. Trained nurses and doctors will be available and on-call 24 hours a day. If you cannot get to these hospitals go to your nearest Emergency Department.

As advised by Fraser Health, before arrival at the hospital try to do the following:

  • Do not pee (if you have to, collect it in a clean container and bring it with you, write down what time you collected it).
  • Do not poop.
  • Do not eat or drink anything.
  • Do not shower or take a bath.
  • Do not douche or wash your genitals.
  • Do not change your clothes.
  • Do not brush your teeth, floss, chew gum, or brush your hair.

It is okay if you have done any or all of the above, it is important to still come in. Services will still be offered.

If you are uncertain whether your condition warrants going to the hospital, please go anyway. It is better to be safe than sorry. SAS are offered at your comfort level and based on your needs. There are services of for:

  • Sexual Assault (vaginal, oral and/or anal).
  • Physical violence (such as hitting, kicking, biting, shoving, etc) from someone you know such as a partner or friend or a stranger.
